How to install JBoss 5.0.1GA on Windows XP

PREREQUISITES

You must have a working installation of JDK 1.5 or JDK 1.6 before you install JBoss Application Server. You can install the 32-bit or 64-bit JVM as per your requirements

Create an environment variable called JAVA_HOME that points to the JDK installation directory, for example: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_14.

In order to run java from the command line add the jre\bin directory to your PATH, for example: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_14\jre\bin. To do this, open the Control Panel from the Start Menu, switch to Classic View if necessary, open the System Control Panel applet, select the Advanced Tab, and click on the Environment Variables button.

N.B.: Don't put trailing slashes on paths

How to install Ant on Windows XP

  • Download latest version from Apache.org
  • Add the bin directory to your path.
  • Set the ANT_HOME environment variable to the directory where you installed Ant. On some operating systems, Ant's startup scripts can guess ANT_HOME (Unix dialects and Windows NT/2000), but it is better to not rely on this behavior.
  • Optionally, set the JAVA_HOME environment variable (see the Advanced section below). This should be set to the directory where your JDK is installed.

You can check the basic installation with opening a new shell and typing ant. You should get a message like this

Buildfile: build.xml does not exist! Build failed

So Ant works. This message is there because you need to write an individual buildfile for your project. With a ant -version you should get an output like

Apache Ant version 1.7.1 compiled on June 27 2008
